Computational Thinking Workshop

Workshop Title: Computational Thinking Workshop

Workshop Leaders: Zehra Sayın, MoNE General Directorate of Innovation and Educational Technologies; Prof. Dr. Mukaddes Erdem, Hacettepe University

Content: The workshop is organized as firstly having a short discussion about computational thinking, and then having activities with/out computers focusing on computational thinking. The workshop will last 3 hours and consists of two parts. In the first part, activities without a computer will take place and will be carried out with 30 participants. In the second part, computerized activities will be employed with 15 participants.

Max. Number of Participants: 30 for the first part, 15 for the second part

Time: Total of 180 min.

Prerequisites: Each participant is required to bring her/his own laptop for the second part.

Data Science in Education Workshop

Workshop Title: Data Science in Education Workshop

Workshop Leader: Dr. Caner Börekçi, MoNE Balıkesir / Karesi-Şehit Prof. Dr. İlhan Varank Science and Art Center

Content: Participants will be able to obtain knowledge and skills about the use of data science in education which is an interdisciplinary scientific method for data analysis and interpretation from a variety of research methods, processes, algorithms, and data systems. Participants will work on sample data sets.

Max. Number of Participants: 20

Time: 80 min.

Prerequisites: Each participant is required to bring her/his own laptop and download and install “Orange” from https://orange.biolab.si/download/ .

Design-Oriented Thinking Workshop

Workshop Title: Design-Oriented Thinking Workshop

Workshop Leader: Dr. Yunus Emre Avcu, MoNE Balıkesir / Karesi-Şehit Prof. Dr. İlhan Varank Science and Art Center

Content: In this workshop, participants will learn the design-oriented thinking [DOT] process, a human-oriented creative problem-solving approach, and how this process can be used to solve unstructured problems. Different programming pedagogies (block-based, text-based, physical-programming) will be used in the prototyping phase of the DOT process, and sample projects developed using DOT in programming teaching processes will be shared with the participants. Participants will develop creative products by experiencing the DOT process in groups.

Time: 80 min.

Max. Number of Participants: 25 (5 per 5 groups)

Prerequisites: There must be a laptop belonging to each group. Physical programming tools will be provided by the workshop leader. Python, Arduino IDE, and Lego Mindstorm Ev3-Teacher Edition software must be installed on the computers belonging to each group and membership must be obtained for Scratch and App Inventor.

Virtual Reality [VR] Workshop

Workshop Title: Virtual Reality [VR] Workshop

Workshop Leader: Arif Vatansever, MoNE Balıkesir Provincial Directorate of National Education

Content: Virtual Reality [VR] is an interactive experience that is created in a virtual environment with the help of computer-based data, supported by visual, auditory and tactile equipment. This virtual perceptual environment can be similar to real-life experiences. However, it can also contain experiences that are fantastic and away from physical reality. Today, VR technologies can be used simultaneously with Virtual Reality Glasses or multimedia reflection systems, as well as systems that try to create the perception of the user’s physical presence in a virtual environment, such as mobile floor systems, vibration-emitting devices. In this workshop, you will get to know these systems closely, applications will be made using the Unity 3D Engine and you will have the chance to experience these applications.

Time: 80 min.

Max. Number of Participants: 20

Prerequisites: Each participant should bring her/his own laptop. The Unity application from the Unity Store should be installed on PCs and SteamVR Plugin should be installed from Asset Store.

Preparing Educational Content with Open Source Tools

Workshop Title: Preparing Educational Content with Open Source Tools

Workshop Leaders: Veli Akçakaya, DRUPART Design Development Consultancy Training; Seyfettin Kahveci, DRUPART Design Development Consultancy Training

Content: At the workshop, participants will create training content with the H5P project, which consists of more than 40 free tools that allow producing professional content with easy-to-use tools. After the training contents are created by all participants, for example, they will be included in the training content via the open-source training management platform Opigno.

Time: 80 min.

Prerequisites: Each participant should bring her/his own laptop and computers must have Internet access.
